In buying clothes for our babies, our top-most priority is to look for clothing that suits their age. But not only that, cute designs will only take you half far. It’s most important to look for a clothing that guarantees them comfort as well. A cute clothing can be Instagram worthy- but will your child be okay with wearing it? That’s the question. I've always believed that our influence and voices should be used in something that might stir our people in the right direction. Speaking up for important and relevant causes is a great contribution to a better network, or a better environment. That is why I want to use my own channel to express my disappointment with counterfeit products that are being released in the market now, as they beam through this pandemic.

Counterfeit products are those that have been using sub-standard materials or materials that have failed quality checking, and then exporting the products in the Philippines in a cheaper price and under an illegal market to which our country utilizes because of cheaper prices. Also take note that they are using this pandemic as a way to enter our markets, taking advantage of this situation so they can earn so much while giving us below grade products.

Most of the counterfeit and substandard products that we've been seeing now are mostly China-made and have been manufactured in China. A lot of our personal protective equipments and products are imported also from the same country. It is with the same level of disgust that I'd like to tell everyone that patronizing such products will not only endanger your lives or the lives of your loved ones. It will also put a risk in the market as we have been accepting low grade goods from other countries and they are taking capital from us while they're leeching from our homes. It will only take a matter of time before they completely take over our lives and our health.

Let's guarantee that we will only support products which have passed great quality checking and have been approved by FDA or any reigning bodies that are authorized by our government. It's high time we promote our own products because as I can see, a lot of Filipinos are also competent and dedicated in providing A grade face masks and face shield products to our fellowmen.

This is a call to ban and prohibit fake China made products, especially personal protective equipments such as face masks and face shields as it will further harm us more than protect us. Support our local manufacturers and continue patronizing Filipino products that aim to establish a good reputation in our industry. May we all keep ourselves safe from the harms of fake products.

Mapúa understands the need for parents to be there for their children now that the new normal compels everyone to adapt to new ways of learning.

The webinar entitled, “Nourishing Your Teenager's Well-Being in the New Normal of Learning,” discussed topics ranging from assessing Filipino students’ readiness for online learning, mental and emotional challenges during online learning, nourishing the students’ well-being to adapt to the new normal of learning, as well as Mapúa’s Center for Guidance and Counseling (CGC) programs in enhancing the well-being of students.

The University invited four speakers from its academe to help the parents play a bigger and better role during their children’s online learning journey.

Dr. Edward Jay M. Quinto, an associate professor at the Mapúa’s School of Social Sciences and Education, talked about self-regulation and self-regulated learning, and how these are connected to students’ behavior and performance in online education.

He explained that self-regulated learning is multicomponent and that these components include goal setting, environmental structuring, time management, task strategies, help seeking, and self-evaluation.

“As we usher students in online learning, they bring with them varying levels of readiness, but we ensure that no one is left behind,” Quinto said.

Dr. Jonathan V. Macayan, the dean of the School of Social Sciences and Education, shared the results of a compassion survey conducted among students, assessing the impact of pandemic on students’ mental and emotional state and provided insights on intervention techniques that can be used both by parents and educators in their engagement with young individuals.

He pointed out that the responsibilities of the school in addressing the mental and emotional well-being of students include the design and implementation of academic and school policies that are sensitive to and supportive of the mental health and well-being of students, the development of a school–parent collaboration system that will aim to monitor and ensure students’ well-being in online learning, as well as the development and implementation of necessary student support services.

“It’s more than just simply a strategy; it has to be genuine. Your intention to humanize your interventions with students must be genuine,” Macayan said.

The third speaker is the University’s program chair for Behavioral and Human Science, Prof. Jasmine Nadja J. Pinugu, who points out that fostering resilience is critical to a teenager’s well-being during difficult times.

She said that the key to nourishing students’ well-being is by fostering resilience, and one can do this by maintaining a positive self-regard for themselves, teaching them life skills such as positive coping and problem-solving skills, enabling them to have a sense of purpose and agency, maintaining positive social connections, as well as emotional regulation.

“At this time of pandemic, there should be stronger collaboration between the students, parents, and the teachers,” Pinugu said.

Arlene V. Clarete-Macatuggal, Mapúa’s director for student advising and counseling, shared how the University has been responding to the needs of its students while learning in an online environment.

She explained that Mapúa CGC offers various services for its students to help them cope with the new normal. These services include counseling, coordinating, appraising, and consulting services.

“We just don’t wait for students to come to us, but we schedule them for counseling through Blackboard or [Facebook Messenger] to help them with their needs,” Macatuggal said.

An open and lively discussion was held for the mommy bloggers in attendance after each topic, wherein their burning questions and concerns were readily addressed by the four speakers.

Through the webinar, Mapúa University aims to best equip parents with the tools needed to help their children have a productive, engaging, and safe learning experience remotely. It is imperative that parents, students, and the academe work together to provide a seamless academic experience for children via the online learning journey.

I think we all share the realization that shopping clothes for babies are way harder than picking clothes for adults. I'm not a newbie mom, but the process of shopping and picking for our little ones doesn't get easier. Maybe it's that we're always looking out for clothes that are attractive to our eyes, (we all want to pick clothes that add a little extra cuteness to our babies' charms) but also high quality and comfortable for them (no to scratchy fabrics, no to non-absorbent fabrics, etc.,)

While browsing Instagram and Facebook, I came across Bebe by So-en, and I was pleasantly surprised. We are all familiar with So-en. It's one of the best known Pinoy brand when it comes to women's intimate apparel, and here they are launching a line for our babies!

From their Instagram page @soen.bebe and
facebook.com/soen.bebe on Facebook check them out!

I was led to their Shopee store (https://shopee.ph/bebebysoen).

For the past few months, parents and kids alike have had to stay safe at home together, finding ways to bond and learn more about each other. Parents in particular have had to become more creative in coming up with solutions to keep their children entertained, while fostering their development at the same time. With the wide range of resources available on the internet, it can sometimes be difficult to find the right balance between the two.

Making learning more fun and fruitful is part of the mission of The Catsup Museum. Founded in 2017 by NutriAsia in partnership with The Mind Museum, the establishment opened its doors to immortalize the story of the well-loved and uniquely Filipino banana catsup, giving visitors a deeper understanding of its history and how it’s made, with rich visuals and impressive displays. Home to beloved household names like UFC, Papa, Jufran and Mafran, NutriAsia set up The Catsup Museum in order to promote the Filipino virtues of ingenuity, resourcefulness and hard work, which all go into each bottle of banana catsup.

The Catsup Museum Goes Virtual

The Catsup Museum goes online, hosting a virtual tour and an interactive module to provide banana-mazing learning resources for kids of all ages. The virtual tour will take viewers around the interactive exhibits of the museum, while giving in-depth commentary and even mini quizzes per area. With a trusty banana acting as a guide, the tour also offers 360o viewing, allowing the audience to click and drag their mouse or move their mobile phone around to see every angle.

Giving a closer look into each hall and exhibit, The Catsup Museum virtual tour starts off at the Hall of the Natural History of Banana. Here, parents and their kids can learn more about the condiment’s main ingredient, including where it was first planted, its life stages and the nutrients it gives.

Following this is the Maria Ylagan Orosa Hall, named after the Filipina food technologist, chemist, humanitarian, and war heroine who invented banana catsup.

Then, viewers are taken behind the scenes into how each bottle of catsup is made in the Manufacturing Hall, a replica of the factories used by NutriAsia.

Rounding up the tour is the Banquet Hall, which features larger-than-life food displays representing dishes banana catsup can be enjoyed with.

For kids who love videos and games, The Catsup Museum will also be launching an interactive module entitled Banana 101. Centered on the wonder fruit, kids can enjoy a series of entertaining activities that will teach them everything about the banana, from its history and life cycle, to how they are grown and processed into the food they eat.

The Catsup Museum’s digital resources are all part of Homeschool: Masarap Matuto, Masaya Mag-Aral, NutriAsia’s first ever learning platform made to spark curiosity in every child. Carving a new path to learning for parents and children alike, the selection of educational materials will cover topics such as health and nutrition for yourself and the family sponsored by Papa, and an introduction to beloved Philippine fruits care of Locally, and will be launched through NutriAsia’s website very soon.
